About
Backend dev specializing in payment systems and legacy modernization. Graduated with a BSc in Computer Science from Reykjavik University in 2020, then started with frontend development, evolved into full-stack work, and now focus on the server side of fintech. I help teams migrate from ancient codebases (DB2, COBOL, old .NET Framework) to modern systems while keeping the money flowing.
Open: Always interested in hearing about interesting side projects and ideas. Love discussing backend engineering, payment systems, and legacy modernization challenges.
Timeline
Built a Flask backend for a weather reporting app for pilots. My first taste of backend development and the start of my programming journey.
Built Medio - Iceland's first SaaS for online prescription drug sales. Also developed Kaktus Blocks, our custom component library that dramatically accelerated website development. Other projects include ru.is and sporthusid.is. Tech stack: headless WordPress (Gutenberg + REST API) and Next.js.
Started on the onboarding team, then moved to client portal development. Later transitioned to internal tooling, helping teams migrate from DB2 and COBOL. Built with .NET backends and React frontends.
6-month stint working in Python/Django, integrating a new payment processor. Applied my payment systems expertise from Valitor, but ultimately decided it wasn't the right fit.
Returned to my old Valitor team (now part of Rapyd after the acquisition). Supporting DB2/COBOL migrations, helping teams upgrade from old .NET Framework to newer .NET versions, maintaining legacy systems, and processing card scheme data (disputes, transactions, reports).
